💥 Signature Style – “CartWill”

Will earned the nickname “CartWill” for his dynamic cartwheel kick and creative combinations. His style blends:

  • Traditional karate fundamentals

  • Modern sport karate flair

  • Strong ring awareness and confidence

🏆 Training & Roots

Will trains out of Allegheny Shotokan Karate in Pennsylvania, part of the Viola family’s multi-generational martial arts legacy. The Viola family karate legacy spans three generations and has played a significant role in shaping martial arts in Western Pennsylvania—and beyond.

The foundation was built by Bill Viola Sr., a true trailblazer in American combat sports. In the 1970s, long before the UFC existed, Viola Sr. organized the first regulated, mixed-style fighting league in history—often recognized as the blueprint for modern mixed martial arts. His work helped lay the groundwork for what would later become mainstream MMA, earning him recognition as one of the original architects of the sport and dubbed the “Godfather of MMA,” before the rise of the Ultimate Fighting Championship. At the same time, he remained deeply committed to traditional karate values—discipline, respect, and character development—establishing a legacy rooted in both innovation and tradition.

His son, Bill Viola Jr., expanded that vision as a Sensei, author, and promoter. Through the creation of the Kumite Classic, he built one of the largest and most respected martial arts expos in the United States, hosted annually in Pittsburgh. The event unites traditional karate, kickboxing, fitness, and community initiatives under one banner, continuing the Viola commitment to excellence, leadership, and opportunity. Viola Jr. also helped preserve martial arts history through his research and writing, documenting the early roots of MMA and his father’s pioneering contributions.

Today, the next generation proudly carries the torch. Gabby Viola and Will Viola represent the continuation of the family tradition, competing at national and international levels and representing Team USA on the world stage. From world championships in Europe to national podium finishes, they embody the same work ethic, discipline, and fighting spirit passed down through the generations.

From pioneering modern MMA before the UFC era, to building championship athletes and nationally recognized events, the Viola family legacy is one of innovation, resilience, and leadership. For over five decades, they have demonstrated that martial arts is more than competition—it is a lifelong path of excellence, service, and family tradition.

Growing up in a competitive martial arts household, he embodies the philosophy of hard work, humility, and continuous improvement.
